When it comes to self defense, many women have traditionally thought of themselves as the weaker sex or less able to defend themselves in dangerous situations. The fact of the matter is that nowadays women are in a much better position to take care of themselves for several reasons.
There are a number of stun guns available now available that have incredible stopping power and are small enough for any woman to handle. Unlike traditional firearms, stun guns do not have the recoil that makes a gun tough to handle. Neither do stun guns have the bang that many people - both men and women - find so objectionable. That loud noise, especially in a small or confined space, can leave your ears ringing for a while.
Some high voltage stun guns have a "test" feature. When the user presses a button the hand-held unit generates a bright electrical arc between its two test probes. Some of them make enough noise to deter the would-be attacker.
High voltage stun guns pack enough of a wallop to stop an attacker in his tracks. From 30,000 to one million volts, these little fistfuls of power are serious weapons. No one zapped by the kind of voltage they deliver will enjoy the experience.
The voltage makes the body's muscles contract all at once, sending the recipient into a fetal position. Depending on where the encounter occurs, the actual fall may cause some damage - down stairs, onto ground level debris, etc. The important point here is that the attacker is incapacitated for a short time, providing a window for the armed woman to get away.
Don't stick around to see how the guy feels. Leave.
In spite of the kind of power they carry, advances in circuitry make it possible to conceal a high voltage stun gun in a variety of clever disguises, many of which can do double duty. Several models are both flashlight and a stun gun, making it possible to use the flashlight to locate the door lock in your vehicle or a building and finger the triggering button at the same time. Just imagine the increased level of protection that will provide. It surely is more than just having your key out and ready when walking to the car!
Another feature that women especially need to research and use is how to carry the stun gun. All stun guns have a safety feature so that the unit won't discharge or be triggered accidentally. That's great, but if you can't find it when you need it, how safe are you? How can it improve your safety?
Take the time to figure out where you will carry the stun gun. Most women carry a purse, handbag or tote of some sort. Most stun guns have either a clip on one side, come with a holster or carrying case, or are so neat and tidy that they can slip right inside a handy pocket. Try out every carry option you can think of. Consciously choose which one to use and become familiar with the feel of it. Make it a practice to carry your handbag or tote the same way every time so that you will always know exactly where your weapon is.
Taking a few minutes to choose how to carry and a few more minutes of practice can make a huge difference in your level of safety.
