Self Defense for Suburban Women
Put yourself in the shoes of suburban women in an area plagued with break-ins and sexual assaults. A group of women in a southern state found themselves in just such a position.
Following a series of suburban home invasions the wives of local law enforcement officers decided to take matters into their own hands. They began by contacting the local officer in charge of training new recruits and persuaded him to teach them the basics of self defense. The group met on a weekly basis for a three month period.
When the series of lessons was completed they moved on to training with firearms. However, many of the women were not comfortable handling such heavy weapons and found the loud noise objectionable. More important to many of them was the level of lethality implied when using firearms.
In spite of their intent to become proficient with firearms, the group chose to take their training in a different direction. After doing the necessary research, the women chose to include the use of non-lethal weapons, most notably stun guns and pepper spray.
These women practiced using both the stun gun and pepper spray during an additional three month period. They consulted with experts and practiced solo, in pairs, and in groups until each of them reached a level of competence and confidence that contributed into turning them into a cadre of confident, capable women.
They are now equipped for meeting virtually any situation with the appropriate level of force. They are also quite capable of taking care of themselves and their families.
When asked about the greatest benefit they derived from the months of self-defense training, the women pointed to the increased level of skill and the quantum leap in their levels of confidence.
Not only are they are no longer easily intimidated, but the women are on their way to becoming seasoned personal safety experts who make informed choices when facing dangerous situations.
