Electrical Control Device Popularity Still Growing
The increased need for non lethal security in both private and public sectors is having an effect worldwide. In an effort to improve safety levels for law enforcement, military and correctional agencies a steadily increasing number of them are adding Electrical Control Devices (ECDs) to their arsenals.
In response, Taser International has expanded its selection of weapons to include a variety of models suitable for professional, military, or civilian use.
In spite of growing concerns about possible implication in deaths following being subjected to electrical shock, approximately 4,700 agencies have issued Taser ECDs to all of their patrol officers. According to Amnesty International and Taser International, over 13,000 agencies in forty-four countries make heavy use of Tasers.
Since February 1988, over 360,000 Tasers have been sold to law enforcement agencies. Since 1994, in excess of 176,000 branded devices have been purchased by private citizens.
The non lethal weapons are legal in 43 states.
