Self Defense Tips: Feisty Women Fare Better
A recent study of men who assaulted, abducted and/or raped women found that women who caused trouble of one kind or another became undesirable targets almost immediately. Here are some things you can do to reduce your vulnerability.
- Pay attention to your surroundings. If you see something suspicious or even questionable, leave the area. Return to your building and hook up with another person who can walk out at the same time.
- When a would-be attacker starts for you, make a lot of noise. Use your personal alarm, if you have one, or a whistle you keep on your key chain. Noise attracts attention he doesn’t want.
- Carry a self defense weapon. For those who don’t want to carry a firearm, Tasers, Mace, pepper spray and stun guns all provide some serious stopping power. Think about the level of force you could be comfortable with and support ethically, then arm yourself.
- Keep your weapon with you at all times. If it is on the kitchen counter when you leave your home or office, it will do you no good. Virtually all self defense weapons have holsters or belt clips. Mace and pepper sprays can usually be attached to your key ring. Use it.
In the final analysis, you are responsible for your actions. Being prepared for a number of situations can not only improve the odds if you are in a tough situation, it can help you avoid danger altogether.
