School Teacher Stops an Attacker with His Stun Gun
As the incidents of school violence goes up, more and more teachers and school staff members are arming themselves with non lethal protection. And for good reason since attacks on faculty and staff are increasing all over the nation.
In a southwestern town, outside of an adolescent psychiatric hospital, a teacher approached his car, which was parked in a distant lot. Two day treatment students were waiting for him. They let him get his car door open and, as he took his place behind the wheel, one reached in, gripped his left arm, and started trying to drag him out of the vehicle.
With his right hand, the teacher reached into the center console and gripped the penlight stun gun he kept there. In one smooth motion he thumbed off the safety and applied the tip of the weapon to the teenager’s hand. The kid screamed and fell to the ground, writhing in pain. Seeing what happened to his pal, the accomplice ran away.
Meanwhile, the teacher stood his ground, called the police on his cell phone, and held the young man until authorities arrived.
The assailant seemed most upset by the fact that the teacher had a weapon to defend himself and pointed out that he wasn’t even carrying a knife. He did, however, have a two foot length of chain in one of his pockets.
When the young man complained to police officers, they responded by saying he was lucky the teacher didn’t have a gun in the car and that he would have been justified in using it.
When asked why he kept a stun gun in the car, the teacher explained that he figured law enforcement was not likely to be there at the precise moment when danger loomed. He said it was his responsibility to do what he could to stay safe.
