Violent Teen Tasered Following Assault on School Official
An angry teen in Indian Land, South Carolina didn’t like it when his mother arrived for a tête-à-tête with the principal of Indian Land High School. The sixteen-year-old had been telling his mom that he wanted to quit school.
When he didn’t like what he was hearing, the young man (who was no gentleman) struck the resource officer several times. Meanwhile, the seventeen-year-old girlfriend leapt into the fray and started punching principal Kathy Faris in the face.
The boy took a hike, but was soon spied in front of the school. Apparently his mood had not improved because, according to Bryan Vaughn, safety director for Lancaster County Schools, “The school resource officer found the student and tried to put the child under arrest, and at that time he used his Taser.”
The child was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia and will probably be expelled. In addition, he will face charges of disturbing schools and assault on a police officer. The girl has been charged with assault and battery and disturbing schools.
Following the fracas a deputy reported that the resource officer was “unsteady and nearly passed out.” According to Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tom Holland, “The resource officer went to the hospital with some kind of head injury.”
The resource officer had gone through Taser training only the previous week. He was duly certified to use the weapon and Holland stated that there would be “no investigation into the incident.”
“It’s clear that he acted appropriately and within our policy,” Holland said.
