UK Police Considering A New Less Lethal Weapons – Glue Guns
So far for less lethal weapons, police have batons, Taser electric stun guns, and CS spray. Firearms officers are equipped with plastic bullets. However, officials are still concerned about their effectiveness in dealing with a potential suicide bomber.
Now, the Home Office Scientific Development Branch is looking into weapons capable of launching powerful, malodorous chemical compounds whose smell is so strong and so offensive that rioters flee, rather than stay around to retch and try to press the point. The point is to equip frontline police officers to avoid the use of firearms and still get the job done. Although developers say the malodorants “are unlikely to prevent a determined assailant” they may still prove useful for crowd control scenarios.
Other options include a serious hi tech gluey substance and tear gas launchers based on leading edge paintball technology. The “immobilizer glue” is fired from special guns and ejects “an extremely tacky material” up to about 30 feet away. The material is so gluey that it can leave the suspect “helplessly stuck.” These “sticky nets” tangle around a suspect and can also be coated with “sticky irritant chemicals” and conduct a stunning electrical stun shock.
A low powered laser, also known as a “directed energy weapon,” can be aimed at an offender’s skin. The laser inflicts burns on the upper layers, a very painful experience, but causing no permanent damage to the target.
