Do You Want Pepper Spray With That?

Last month two armed men barged into an Ottawa McDonald’s restaurant in the small hours of the morning. One carried a black handgun. The other carried pepper spray.

One of the masked men, the one carrying the handgun, forced two of the employees into a walk-in refrigerator. The other intruder, who carried the pepper spray, doused both employees with the noxious pepper spray.

Meanwhile, a third employee was in the washroom.

According to police reports, when he came out of the restroom and saw what was going on, the quick-thinking employee left the restaurant by another door. He sprinted across the street to a payphone where he called the local authorities.

When the suspects figured out that the police had been called, they left by a side exit and fled on foot. Since the two employees inside had been hit with pepper spray they could not see which direction the suspects ran and there was no real chase.

Ottawa paramedics on the scene administered first aid, then transported the two employees who had been pepper sprayed to a nearby hospital where they were decontaminated.
