Cheerleader Moms Use Stun Gun to Make a Point
Oklahoma City moms take cheerleading seriously. So seriously, in fact, that they assaulted a cheerleading sponsor with a stun gun in the parking lot of a local school last April.
Leshawn Cathleen Fisher told Oklahoma City Police that she acted on an “impulsive decision” when she attacked Bethany Lorenz, the cheerleading sponsor. Fisher was unhappy with Lorenz’s treatment of her friend’s daughter.
Julie Ann Bell, the mother, pointed out the teacher to Fisher some time before the attack but denies she had any involvement in the actual assault.
After the hearing last month Bell’s attorney, Tommy Adler, said, “Nobody associated with the Bell family ever wanted this to happen.” According to prosecutors, Bell harbored bad feelings toward Lorenz because Bell’s fifteen-year-old daughter was not chosen for the varsity cheerleading squad.Further, Bell believed the teacher had been “picking on her daughter in biology class.”
Fisher, however, waived rights to a preliminary hearing on the charges.
Bell is considered to have “slight involvement” by virtue of having pointed out the cheerleading coach to Fisher. Assistant District Attorney Scott Rowland said “slight involvement’ is sufficient under Oklahoma law.
Special Judge Fred Doak ordered that the two women stand trial on assault and conspiracy charges for the stun gun attack.
