Cell Phone Stun Gun is the Weapon of Choice for Aging Population

When a purse snatcher tried to separate an elderly woman from the purse holding her rent money she was prepared. Turns out her grown son was concerned about the high incidence of crime against the elderly and decided on a proactive approach with his mom.

This thoughtful son did his homework before approaching mom. Because of her small size and relative lack of strength he wanted to provide her with a non lethal weapon that she could handle with ease. After doing the research, he pared the options down to two models. To him, the choices were clearly between a penlight stun gun or a cell phone stun gun. They are small and powerful enough to drop an attacker after about two seconds of contact.

When he started the conversation with mom he addressed neighborhood crime and elder crime issues first. Before he even started trying to talk her into a weapon she “jumped the gun” and said she had been talking about safety concerns with some of the women in her mahjongg group. She had already decided she needed to arm herself.

At that point he presented her with the two options he had brought along. Mom chose the cell phone stun gun because, she said, “It might look weird if she walked around with a flashlight in the middle of the day.”

They spent some time working through how to use the safety and trigger mechanisms, as well as the (very useful) flashlight function. The only thing left to do was to figure out how she was going to carry it in order to keep it close at hand. The preparation paid off.

The arresting officers got a good laugh when the mugger was angry that the “little old lady carried a weapon.”
