Coed Uses Flashlight Stun Gun to Good Advantage
Following a long night’s studying in the stacks, a young law student headed for her car, parked on the far side of the nearly deserted lot. Even though there were no security personnel visible, she knew they patrolled frequently and figured she was relatively safe.
Nevertheless, along with books, laptop carrying case and handbag, the young woman also carried her flashlight stun gun and keys, both at the ready. The stun gun was a parting gift from her parents who insisted that she learn how to use it before heading for law school. And she was glad she did.
On the night in question, a mugger lurked behind a nearby vehicle, waiting for a distracted student, with arms full of school materials, to emerge from the building. He waited until the woman was within range before rushing out to grab her laptop case and purse. He tried to shoulder her out of the way as he pulled at the shoulder straps. At that point the victim smacked him across the face with her flashlight stun gun, breaking his nose, then pressed it against his wrist and delivered a high voltage shock that sent him to the ground screaming in pain.
Having heard screams from both the victim and the assailant, a nearby security officer roared up in his patrol car. After surveying the situation – guy on the ground, coed fumbling with her car keys and crying, the officer rapidly took the mugger into custody.
During questioning the student said, “At first I forgot the flashlight was also a stun gun. I mean, it’s a good flashlight. When I remembered it was a weapon, too, I just used it like one. It worked.”
When questioned about the wisdom of his plan, the mugger said it never occurred to him that “the babe would be armed and dangerous.”
