Taser International Requires More Than Money

If you want a Taser for your very own you must provide more than money to Taser International. The company, which was founded in 1993, is dedicated to “providing solutions to violent confrontation by developing products that enable people to protect themselves.”

Tasers (and accessories) can be purchased all around the world, including through internet providers. What sets TI apart from the rank and file of stun gun manufacturers is their strict security policy. Even if you have the non lethal weapon in your hand, it will not work until and unless you enter the activation code provided by the company. Before getting the code from the company you must go through a background check similar to (though not quite as rigorous) as one required by law for getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon or purchase a regular firearm.

There are two additional features aimed at preventing the misuse of Tasers.

• The TASER Cam provides 1.5 hours of audio and video recording time to capture events prior to, during, and after deployment; and

• The Anti-Felon Identification System (AFID) so that each time a cartridge is used it can be tracked. At the time of discharge hundreds of confetti-like markers, bearing the identification data of the weapon, are blown out making it virtually impossible to deploy without detection.
