Texas School Needed Stun Guns to Subdue Student
In a Houston area school stun guns were equal to the task recently when students needed persuading to disengage.
When the fight broke out in a Katy Independent School District, the police got involved. A school district officer spotted a couple of students who were openly engaging in fisticuffs. The officer directed both students to stop and back off. One student followed directions. One did not. He followed the other and kept landing blows. When he continued refusing to stop the attack the officer was forced to intervene.
Luckily, the foresighted school district had already equipped its officers with stun guns. The officer deployed the barbed projectiles which hit the student. They are attached to the stun gun with a couple of insulated leads down which some serious voltage travels. The stunned student immediately dropped to the ground and the confrontation ended. The Mayde Creek High School students are nearly adults. It takes more than a flyswatter to interrupt a violent confrontation between a couple of big adolescents. That’s the value of stun guns in a nutshell.
In virtually all school districts, SROs are fully certified not only in the proper use of the stun guns but also in how to use them in a school setting.
In a prepared statement school district officials said, “It was the officer’s professional judgment that the use of a Taser was necessary for the safety of the student, the officer, and others in the area.”
“It is unfortunate that this had to happen,” the statement said, “however, it is expected that our officers will use appropriate means to keep our schools and students safe.”
Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
