Aussie Officer Issued Stun Gun Then Uses It the Next Day
When New South Wales senior general duty officers were each issued a stun gun no one expect one to be needed so soon. Unfortunately, trouble was brewing at a private home in Blue Haven. Early the next morning authorities received a call about a domestic disturbance. A twenty-six year old man who was obviously inebriated had armed himself and was threatening to do himself harm.
These events began to unfold only a day after two Tasers were received by each of the state’s eighty local commands. So far a total of about four hundred officers have received the training, which is required before they are allowed to carry a Taser. Part of the training program includes having each officer experience the shock delivered when he is hit by a deployed Taser. At this point, an additional 1,500 officers are slated for training in the near future.
Prior to this point, only members of the police riot squad and the elite tactical operations units were armed with Taser X-26 weapons.
