Stun Gun Hits Middle School Campus
Faculty, staff and students are finding it more and more dangerous to walk the hallowed halls of learning these days. Gone are the days when chewing gum under the desk or wearing shorts to school was a heinous crime. Now even a middle schooler can show up for English carrying a stun gun.
Students at Lake Shore Middle School in Jacksonville, Florida decided to get involved when they suspected two girls of bringing weapons to school. Thanks to a Student Crime Stoppers program introduced earlier in the year, they knew what to do.
First Coast Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number. Students who call are eligible for a $100 reward for information calls and $500 for any call leading to an arrest. Since introducing the program to schools they have received a total of twenty-one tips which have resulted in five arrests. Two of the students arrested were in possession of firearms.
