Taser Headlines

One of the latest headlines in the city of Seattle stated that “Seattle police kill knife-wielding man at Aurora motel”. Unfortunately, this headline is all too common these days. The man mentioned in the story had been carrying a knife. He was in a motel with a woman who was screaming and who also informed the officers that there was a knife involved. The officers responded and a Taser was used a couple times.

The knife wielding man would not comply with the officer’s orders and the Taser did not get him to drop the knife. In order to keep themselves and the other people safe, several officers were forced to shoot the man.
For the most part, Tasers do their job well. The reason why officers prefer to use Tasers is to avoid the necessity of lethal force in these types of situations. There have been countless times when a Taser has saved the life of a bad guy.

Meanwhile, in Fort Smith, Arizona, The Headline read, “Police Use Taser To Subdue Man”. Thankfully this headline is also a common one. In this instance, the Taser did not function as it often can. The probes that were released did not penetrate the heavy clothing of the man running from the police. The officer managed to get the man on the ground. He refused to comply even with the officer in direct contact. At this point the Taser was used much as a stun gun and was placed in direct contact with the outlaws shoulder blades.

This is an excellent example of how a Taser can be effective when it is necessary to stop those who choose to break the law. It is the hope that Tasers can continue to save the lives of both bad guys and officers alike.
