Taser helps Deputies Stop SuspectTaser helps Deputies Stop Suspect
Law enforcement officers never know what a day on the job might entail. Deputies were working at a domestic disturbance when a 51 year old man, Audrey Don Chavis, came up to them. Apparently, Chavis used his hands to simulate the action of putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger. The incident was odd from the beginning.
The Deputies called for an ambulance for Mr. Chavis after he requested one prior to his hand gesture. This was not the first time the 911 dispatch center heard from Mr. Chavis that night. According to their records he had phoned in earlier and told the dispatcher, loudly, “screw you”.
Next, the Deputies went to arrest Chavis. He ran back to his home, went inside, and refused to come back out. He grabbed a knife from the kitchen and did not respond to the Deputies directions to put the knife down.
The Deputies were forced to use non-lethal force on Mr. Chavis. A Taser was used which got Mr. Chavis in his left arm and his torso. There were no lasting effects of the Taser use. Deputies were able to arrest Mr. Chavis and he was later charged with resisting, delaying, and obstructing as well as a misuse of the 911 system.
Mr. Chavis has since been released from jail. He will be expected back in court in the near future. The Deputies used their Taser and were able to keep a strange situation from turning into a tragic one. Hopefully, Mr. Chavis will be able to find the help he needs and avoid any further confrontation with law enforcement officers.
