Woman Shot by Taser While Holding Kids
It is safe to say that there are times when it is necessary to use a Taser or other form of non-lethal protection when it is a less than ideal situation. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police had to do so this last March. An investigation could be initiated as the woman has filed a complaint.
Last spring in an area known as Yellowknife a woman was Tasered by the RCMP. This is not news in and of itself until you add the fact that she was holding her children at the time the taser was used on her. The small amount of information available in this case has not lead to friendly headlines for the RCMP.
Apparently, there has already been a criminal investigation. The results of that investigation recommended that there be no charges filed against the RCMP that were involved. It was determined that the Taser was used aptly. The RCMP is not discussing the case.
The Commission for Public Complaints against the RCMP may be involved in an investigation due to the woman’s filed complaint. At this time there is no further investigation being performed. The woman can ask that there be further inquires and a review. Others can push for an investigation; however, it is usually the complainant that needs to get the ball rolling.
Things always are more challenging when children are involved. Basically, all law enforcement agencies, no matter their location or situation, want to protect children from any harm. At times law enforcement officers have to make decisions that are questionable later. Hopefully, any continued investigation will be able to put any lingering questions to rest.
