Cheerleader’s Mom Uses Stun Gun on Sponsor
It is like a bad after school special, a mother enraged at the fact that her daughter did not make the cheerleading squad. The story unfolds in an Oklahoma High School where a cheerleading sponsor gets hit with a stun gun.
Julie Ann Bell, the 40 year old mother of the young girl not invited to be part of the varsity cheerleading squad, took the rejection pretty hard. As Bethany Lorenz traveled through the parking lot at the High School she was approached by Mrs. Bell. The attack occurred shortly thereafter.
Julie Ann Bell admitted to the use of the stun gun on Bethany Lorenz. She is now petitioning a judge to throw out her statement because she was not read her Miranda rights prior to her confession. According to Bell the detectives were aggressive and yelling at her. The detectives had gone to speak with Bell at her place of employment, a health clinic. They stand by the fact that she did not need a Miranda warning as she was not placed in custody before she started talking.
Somewhere in the mix a third woman had been added. Bells friend, Cathleen Fisher, has also been charged with assault and conspiracy. Bell had told police that her friend was not involved in the incident.
Only time will be able to tell where this story will end. The next phase is the trial, which has been set for February. Apparently a mother’s ambition and hopes for her daughter can cause extreme behavior. It’s important to keep your eyes on the big picture and not get caught up in the heat of the moment.
