Police Use Taser to Subdue 18 Year Old
There are many ways in which a taser does its job well. One fine example was demonstrated recently when police officers were sent to confront a man who was under the influence of drugs. A call came in that described a man running in traffic, acting irate, carrying a glass pipe and screaming.
Shortly after arriving, the 18 year old let the officers know he had been using LSD. He also let them know he was prepared for a fight. He did not follow the directions given by the officers and refused to cooperate with them. In order to help subdue the man the officers found it necessary to use a Taser.
After the initial use of the Taser the young man continued to fight. It took four cycles, or shocks, with the Taser to calm the man down. Eventually the officers were able to cuff the man although he continued to be combative in the ambulance as it took him to the local hospital. Police stayed with the man and continued to work to calm him down.
Unfortunately, the man was released from the hospital and was not placed under arrest beforehand. Police continue to search for him. He will likely face several charges when he is located.
The use of the Taser gave the officers on the scene a tool to help keep both them and the man from being hurt in any serious way. Tasers are useful in that even civilians who carry them can diffuse what could be an escalating situation and keep themselves safe from harm.
