Would you take a stun gun hit as a demonstration?
A group of High school students got to spend a day in their local police department. Luckily they were not there as the result of any bad behavior! The students had picked law enforcement as a possible career path and were there for job shadows. Most of them were surprised at the glimpse they got into the world of law enforcement, including an extra lesson on stun guns!
One of the reserve police officers allowed the students to watch him take a stun gun hit. Each of the nine students was then allowed to try the stun gun themselves. They all appeared to be a little nervous. They did enjoy the experience, however. How many kids get to see someone take a stun gun hit while they are out for career day?
“I don't know why, but it just fascinates me,” one student said. “I've always wanted to be a police officer, and now I'm getting to see more about what it takes to do it. It isn't necessarily what I thought it was going to be like, but (the career day experience) has made me want to do it more.” www.thetowntalk.com
Job shadows are an excellent way to “try on” a career for a day. The students involved in this particular day got a glimpse in to the ins and outs of law enforcement. The stun gun demonstrations will likely be one they will remember for a long time to come. They now know that there is a lot more to being a police officer than what is seen in an episode of cops.
