Suspect Disarms Police Officer and Points Taser at Officer
Tasers are a wonderful part of a Police Officers arsenal, one of the great choices when it suspects are not cooperating. A Taser is often used to help officers get their job done while avoiding lethal force. Police officers forced a violent Petaluma man into custody recently after he resisted arrest and gained control of one of the officer’s Taser. The incident began when an officer stopped Jordan Hope, 26, for speeding.
The officer noticed Hope was “covered in vomit and he admitted to drinking alcohol,” according to a police statement. After a test showed Hope to be over the legal blood alcohol limit two officers tried to take Hope into custody on suspicion of DUI.
Mr. Hope resisted arrest. In the struggle with officers they all fell to the ground. Hope punched at the officers as they were fighting. Somehow he managed to get one of the Tasers from an officer and then proceeded to attempt to use it. Hope pointed the Taser at one officer’s face.
Officers were forced to continue fighting with Mr. Hope until their back up arrived. The Taser was taken back from Hope by one of the officers. Finally, yet another officer who had responded to the call for help used their Taser on Mr. Hope and he was then handcuffed.
Once Jordan Hope arrived at the jail he was charged with suspicion of resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, taking an officers weapon, and DUI. The officers had received some cutting and bruising in the fight, no serious injuries were reported. The Taser allowed officers to gain control on a bad situation. It allowed the suspect to be handcuffed and taken to jail without the use of lethal force.
