Christian Women Learn About Self Defense

Anyone can be a victim of an attacker, including Christians. That is why it is important for people to learn a little bit about self defense…including Christians. Though some people have thought that it was a bit silly for Christians to learn self defense, one church in Allen, Texas is being realistic.

While Jesus said that his followers should “turn the other cheek,” I seriously doubt that he wanted his followers to be walked all over. Apparently, the First Baptist Church in Allen, Texas agrees with me because they had a self defense classes for the women of their church.

The three teachers of the class were all black belts of various degrees. They presented the women with statistics about rape, muggings, and attacks in general. The teachers followed this up with some basic safety tips that would help prevent the likelihood of an attack.

There was even a hands-on portion of the self defense class. The women were taught some basic self defense moves that they could use in case they were attacked. The women were also taught some really easy things that anyone could do if they were attacked, like simply screaming if an attacker makes a threat. Screaming would get the attention of other people who could come running to the rescue.

Self defense classes are starting to pop up everywhere it seems. Many colleges are holding self defense classes, as are many police departments. But it makes me happy that churches are finally holding them too. Criminals can attack anyone and Christians shouldn’t let themselves be pushed around. No one should be treated like that.
