Stun Gun Stops a Hatchet Wielding Granny
Sometimes people just lose their grip on reality. Whether it is due to stress, genetic predisposition, or just getting older, the fact remains that sometimes people just lose it. It isn’t a bad thing. It just happens. In fact, there was a 62 year old woman who needed to be subdued with a stun gun because she lost it a little bit.
The police in Mount Vernon, New York, got a phone call about a woman who was emotionally disturbed.
Upon entering her apartment, the police didn’t find the woman right away. When they found her in her bedroom they became surprised. The 62 year old woman had a hatchet and started to charge at the police. Not wanting to hurt the woman, the police retreated.
They went in for a second try and tried to calm the woman down. She would not be calmed. She charged again so the police retreated.
One of the officers then pulled out his department issued stun gun. Then it was the officers’ turn to charge. They stunned the woman with the stun gun and had her restrained. The woman suffered no injury from the stun gun.
The woman was obviously emotionally distressed. So, instead of taking her to jail, she was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
This is a great example of a stun gun helping to protect those who protect us. The officers could have been seriously hurt by that hatchet. If they had used their pistols to bring in the woman, she could have been seriously hurt. But thanks to a stun gun, no one was seriously injured and the world is a safer place now.
