Shhhh, I’m Learning Self Defense
You may have heard of free self defense classes in your area. More and more frequently, self defense classes are being offered for free. The classes are usually offered by police departments to help women defend themselves in the event of attack. But have you ever heard of a free self defense class being taught at a library?
The public library in Moore, Oklahoma is offering free self defense classes. The classes aren’t specifically for women. Instead, they are offered to anyone who is twelve years old and older. The classes are part of a series that the library is holding to prepare people for life.
The classes will be led by a Tae Kwon Do instructor from the USA Tae Kwon Do Center of Moore. Katherine Taylor, the Tae Kwon Do instructor, will teach people basic moves to use in the event of an attack. She will also teach them to constantly be aware of their surroundings and exercises to help them raise their awareness and focus.
Being prepared is the most important part of self defense. If you aren’t prepared, then you will be more likely to become a victim. That is why I think it is so great that free self defense classes are being taught more and more across the country. I think it is especially wonderful that a library has welcomed such classes. Libraries are places of learning and knowledge, and self defense is a very important thing to learn.
Hopefully, more libraries will open their doors to similar forms of education as a service to their communities.
