Drunk Man Pulls Gun and Gets a Face Full of Pepper Spray
Pepper spray is one of the many weapons that law enforcement officers use to help control suspects. It is very effective because it causes an intense burning sensation and it makes the eyes tear up and go blind temporarily. Pepper spray is a good alternative to a sidearm and though it hurts a lot, it saves lives. One man found out just how much it can hurt.
James Appleman of Albuquerque, New Mexico had been drinking a lot one Saturday night. While the reports don’t say whether or not he had been driving, we do know for sure that he had been in his car.
Police officers saw him stumble out of his car and start walking down the street. When they approached him and asked for identification, he led them back to his car. This is where he made a really stupid mistake. He reached for his gun.
When the officers saw that he had a gun, they acted quickly and got it out of his hand. Appleman fought intensely with the officers until one of them pulled out his pepper spray. He then sprayed Appleman with it and effectively subdued him.
Needless to say, Appleman was arrested and is in a whole world of trouble.
Alcohol and cars don’t mix, and alcohol really doesn’t mix with guns. Pulling a gun was really stupid but Appleman is lucky. The police could have pulled their guns and shot him. Thankfully though, they had pepper spray and made a wise choice in using it. Not only was the suspect saved, but it shows that more and more officers are making better judgments when it comes to the safety of citizens.
