Kids Learn Important Self Defense

Anyone can be attacked and this includes children. That’s why it is important for parents to teach their children how to defend themselves and avoid situations that could end badly. Thankfully, the YWCA in Enid, Oklahoma is offering a self defense class for children from third through seventh grade.

Sexual assault is a serious crime and unfortunately, there are people who use fear as a means of manipulating children. These people are despicable and their crimes are inexcusable. But if children are properly educated then they can make sure that they never fall prey to those horrid predators.

All too often when we think of self defense, we fail to think that children need to defend themselves too. That’s why the Enid YWCA is holding these classes. They are teaching the kids how to avoid dangerous situations and basic self defense moves in case they find themselves in one. While these things are very important, I think that one of the most important things that they are teaching these kids is to not be afraid. Fear is the weapon used by weak creatures, and that is exactly what sexual predators use.

I am surprised that more organizations across the country aren’t doing the same thing to teach children self defense. I would love to hear of more classes like this being held and I’m sure that parents would too. Children are a precious part of our society and we need to do our part to help protect them, but we must also teach them self defense for when we can’t be there for them.
