Park Rangers Use TASER on a Sword Wielding Man
It is a pretty well known fact that many police departments use TASER guns, but did you know that National Park Rangers are starting to carry them? It is a good thing they are too. One ranger in Arizona had to use one recently in a very dangerous situation.
A Glen Canyon Park Ranger got a request from a local county sheriff in regards to a man who was wielding a sword. It was a katana sword, the kind that samurais use in Japan. Apparently the man had been arguing with his father and things got a little out of hand.
The ranger showed up on the scene and worked with the sheriff to try and negotiate with the man. He was threatening the officers with the sword. The sheriff had a rifle out in case things got really messy.
The man soon put down the sword but he started to walk away from the scene. They told him to stop but he wouldn’t listen. Then, the man started to reach for a bulge in his pocket. The officers weren’t sure what it was, but the park ranger pulled out his TASER and used it. The man fell to the ground and the sheriff came in and placed him under arrest.
The bulge in his pocket was yet another bladed weapon.
The use of TASER guns has sparked some controversy, but I don’t get why. The benefits of TASERs far outweigh the risks. This man with the sword and knife could have been shot with a gun, but a TASER was used instead. I am pretty sure that even he supports the use of TASERs now.
