Woman Shoots Her Young Lover in Self Defense
Self Defense is important to every individual. It can help save your life, even the lives of those around you. Sometimes, people end up killing other people when defending themselves. But self defense is more than just a gun. Self defense is supposed to build confidence, not regret. For a woman in Denham Springs, Louisiana, regret is all she is going to feel.
In April, a 49-year-old woman shot her 26-year-old boyfriend in self defense. When police arrived Suzanne White told them that Lockwood, her boyfriend, had put a knife against her throat. He demanded that she tell him where the gun was, probably so he could shoot her. She also told police that she had convinced him to lower the knife so she could get it. Once it was within reach, she grabbed it and shot her knife wielding lover.
What if Suzanne White used pepper spray or a Taser? Her lover would be alive and in police custody. The law would take care of him and he’d get proper punishment. Instead, she has to face the fact that she killed another human; another human being with emotions and a family. I can’t possibly imagine killing another human being. I can’t imagine the regret and the shame I’d feel.
Why can’t people use less lethal self defense weapons? They save lives without taking the lives of others. They can incapacitate someone, if the need arises, and buy time to escape. Death doesn’t even need to come into the equation, just common sense. If more people would use less lethal self defense weapons, then maybe we could stop killing each other one day. We can only hope.
