Doctor Says TASER is Not to Blame for Dziekanski’s Death
There has been a lot of controversy in Canada over the use of TASER guns by law enforcement. The debate has gone on for months upon months. One of the primary cases that are talked about is the death of Robert Dziekanski. Many people blame the TASERs that were used for his death, but I disagree and other professionals are finally coming out to say the same.
If you aren’t up to date on the story, I’ll brief you. Back in October of 2007, Dziekanski started to throw furniture around in a public airport. Security came in a used a TASER to stop him. I disagree with the fact that they discharged their TASERs before they tried talking, but ah well. They had to use the TASER five times in order to calm him down enough.
After Dziekanski had been cuffed, his pulse was checked. He was still alive. His pulse was checked two other times before the fire department showed up. Each time, he had a pulse. But eventually, he died while in cuffs.
Many people have blamed the TASER for his death, but a few doctors have recently come forward to pose a different opinion. One doctor that has been on the TASER medical board for several years pointed out that if the electroshock device was the cause of death, he would have died immediately, not a while afterward.
The autopsy that was performed on Dziekanski declared that he indeed did die of a sudden death, not of any condition related to electroshock. You’d think that TASER would be out of the woodwork, and I wish people would leave them alone. TASERs have been a great addition to law enforcement.
