Self Defense With a Knife Killed Petty Crook
I believe that self defense is something that everyone is entitled to. Without some means of defending yourself, life can get very perilous. However, I don’t believe that self defense means that someone has to die, but unfortunately it happens sometimes.
A man from Rapid City, South Dakota recently had some problems. In the middle of the night, two men approached him and asked him for some money. The man didn’t want to give them any, but they pressed him for money anyway. He again refused them and started to walk away.
The two men, Joshua Red Cloud and Darell Rooks, didn’t like this and so they decided to jump the man from behind. Little did they know that this man was a chef and he carried knives with him for self defense. The man pulled out one of his knives and stabbed the two men.
It wasn’t released where Rooks was stabbed, but Red Cloud was stabbed in the neck and died that very night. Rooks was arrested and charged with assault. The unnamed chef will not be charged because it was a blatant case of self defense.
This is an iffy situation in my opinion. I believe in self defense, but when someone’s life is taken things get weird for me. Self defense should help save lives, not take them. Maybe I am biased here, but I wish more people would use things like pepper spray or stun guns. They are less lethal by far than a knife and they are very effective. Maybe if the chef would have had pepper spray, he wouldn’t have to live with someone’s death on his conscience.
