Pepper Spray Saves Lives from Man with Knives

One of the most amazing weapons that police officers employ is pepper spray. The fact that this tool originates in nature and is adapted for use in the modern world just blows my mind sometimes. To hear how well it works is equally amazing, especially when it saves people’s lives like it did in Champion, New York.

Troopers Morgia and Pacola were responding to a report of a domestic disturbance and were on their way. As they were headed there, they received more details about the situation and were told that the man had two large knives and was threatening to kill his girlfriend. The troopers were also told that the man was also threatening to kill any police who showed up.

When the troopers arrived to the residence, they could see the man with a knife in each hand, as well as his girlfriend sitting on the couch, scared for her life. The man called out and said that he would kill any cop who tried to enter his house. The officers tried to get him to drop his knives and surrender, but to no avail.

Finally, one of the officers went to the front door and cracked it just enough to spray some pepper spray in there. The man lunged at the door while the officer retreated. The troopers didn’t have to wait long for the pepper spray to affect the man, and then they kicked in the door and arrested him.

This simple spray has been used many times and it has always been effective. Thank to good policing and this invaluable tool, lives were saved and a criminal was arrested.
