Actor Vinnie Jones Acted in Self Defense
Even movie stars have to defend themselves sometimes, but self defense can be a hard thing to prove. Actor Vinnie Jones discovered this after he defended himself in a Sioux Falls bar not too long ago. I was shocked when I first heard the story because it just doesn’t make sense.
Vinnie Jones, the actor who played Juggernaut in one of the X-Men movies, was in a bar in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was in town to go pheasant hunting. In the bar, he asked a couple of men if he could join in their pool table game. One of them pointed out that he was the actor who played Juggernaut, then promptly told him that he couldn’t play.
For some reason the men became very violent with Jones. They picked up a beer glass and smashed it into his face, then smashed him in the head with a beer bottle. As Jones headed for a bathroom to try to clean himself up, the men started to taunt him a second time. Fearing for his safety, Jones lunged at one of them and started to punch him.
What was shocking to me was that Jones was arrested and put on trial. He faced up to a year in jail and a $2000 fine, even after he had received 70 stitches due to the glass that was broken over his face. Perhaps if Jones had used a self defense weapon instead of his fists, he wouldn’t have gotten himself into so much trouble.
Self defense is a right that every person has. When people are attacked like Mr. Jones was, they shouldn’t get into trouble for defending themselves.
