New Zealand Embraces the Stun Gun
While in some parts of the world the use of the stun gun is being criticized, the New Zealand government is planning on its use by law enforcement officers across the country. While many people in New Zealand are thrilled about this advancement in law enforcement, there are some people who are against it.
Now that the funding has been gathered together, 3500 officers are going to be trained and 720 Tasers will be distributed throughout the country. As more funding is collected, no doubt more of these helpful tools will be distributed.
The introduction of the stun gun to New Zealand police departments is very welcome by the officers in those departments. They have been facing an ever growing problem of meth addicts attacking officers. Now that they will have the electroshock devices, they can protect themselves while posing less risk to the addicts who would attack them than they would with their sidearms.
Fortunately, the government has already had enough foresight to set up very strict rules in regards to the weapons being discharged. They have also made sure to budget for a computer system and cameras in the Tasers that will keep a record when they are used. They have set this up to help prevent the weapons from being misused.
Enforcing the law for a living is a tough job, especially when drug addicts go crazy and start to attack officers. They need to have a means of defense other than a gun that can help keep both the suspect and themselves alive. A stun gun is a wonderful solution to that problem and I am glad to hear that New Zealand has realized that.
