Man Dies from Handguns after TASER Can’t Make Contact
There are a lot of reasons why people do strange things. Usually these bizarre behaviors manifest in benign ways, not causing any harm to others. Sometimes though, people just lose it and end up facing the police. Most of the time the police use a TASER and stop the situation before anyone gets hurt, but things don’t always work as we plan.
A man from Carbondale, Illinois led the police on a short car chase that end with them stopping his car with stop sticks. The man was obviously disturbed because he got out of the car with a machete and a big hunting knife. He was making threats to the officers and telling them to just shoot him. However, they didn’t want to shoot him.
The officers pulled out their TASER guns and fired them at him. For some reason though, the barbed darts wouldn’t make contact with his skin. This was more than likely due to thick or baggy clothing. At any rate, the stun guns didn’t work as planned.
Police tried to tackle the man, but he dodged them. Eventually, he gripped his machete with both hands and started running at an officer. Doing as they were trained in a life threatening situation, they pulled their guns and fired. Five shots were fired; four of the bullets hit the man. He died.
Who knows why the man did what he did? The officers tried to help him, but TASER devices aren’t perfect, though they do a great job most of the time. It is sad that they didn’t make contact with his skin, because it ended with him dying from a justified barrage of bullets. May he rest in peace.
