Pepper Spray Used On Rowdy Townspeople in Africa
Chaos filled a small town in Africa that required the police to use pepper spray. It started when the people decided to oust the whole village council and the CEO of the town, who was in charge of all finances. They came to deliver a petition, but were brushed off by the CEO saying that the council would think about it.
The townsfolk wanted the people in charge out of office for very good reasons. These people had gained their freedom and independence 19 years ago. Their local government promised that they would be taken care of and continued to make promises over the years. However, to this day, they still have no electricity or running water. Needless to say, the townspeople were upset.
When the CEO tried to tell the people that the council would need a week to review the petition because it may not comply with the law, everyone became upset. They shouted, “We don't need to hear, can't you see that the community doesn't want you. We came to close the office.” Then they started to throw rocks at the CEO and charged through a police barricade in an attempt to padlock the town hall doors.
Because the people had erupted into such violence, the police used pepper spray in an attempt to disperse the crowd. In the commotion, the CEO hit an old woman with his car.
When a government fails its people in a horrible way and has denied them basic amenities, being upset is understandable. However, rising up in violence should only be a last resort in face of a tyrant, like when America won their independence. Is this what’s happening in this village? I don’t think so. But I do wish them the best of luck.
