Pepper Spray Used to End Standoff with Thieves
Pepper spray is a great tool for law enforcement agencies. It has many uses, including driving criminals from their hiding places. This is precisely what it was used for recently in a Washington State town called Burien. It helped to end a standoff that had lasted for several hours.
There had been a few robberies in the area lately. One woman said that she had come home to find her front door kicked in and her most prized possessions missing. But the beginning of the end to the robberies by one group of men started when they broke into a woman’s house while she was there with her four children. She called the police and the three men ran to hide in a nearby apartment.
The police were called at six in the morning and they brought in the SWAT team, as well as a negotiator. Not much was working at first, so they decided that it would be best if they used a new tactic to force them into surrendering. The SWAT team was then ordered to fire a few canisters of pepper spray into the apartment where the thieves were holed up.
This was around 11:15. Two of the suspects surrendered fifteen minutes later, but it was a whole hour later until the third suspect came out. All three were suffering the intense effects of the pepper spray when they were arrested.
These men were bound to get caught eventually. They should have known that if you break the law, then you will lose. Perhaps they will rethink their lives while they are sitting in jail paying for their crimes.
