Pepper Spray Aids in Arrest of Drunk Driver
Police have a hard job. They have to chase down and arrest criminals all the time. When those criminal suspects don’t comply, the police sometimes have to use TASERs or pepper spray in order to subdue them. Even then, their job continues to be dangerous because sometimes the suspect just won’t stop. They continue in defiant rage.
This recently happened in Collier County, Florida. A man named Juan Martinez was driving while he was very drunk. A police cruiser pulled behind him and turned on the lights and siren. However, instead of pulling over like he should have, Martinez only went faster. He reached speeds up to 95 mph.
He eventually stopped and fled from his truck, hiding under someone’s house. The police found him though and started to drag him out. Martinez then started to kick the officers who were trying to place him under arrest. They had to use a flashlight to strike him into submission. Even then, he continued to fight.
One of the officers then pulled out his TASER and shot him with it. After being shocked for five seconds, Martinez pulled the darts out of his skin and got up to fight some more. So, the officer used his pepper spray to spray the suspect in the face. Amazingly, Martinez was so drunk that he couldn’t feel the pain, though his eyes did start to swell shut.
Once they had put the cuffs on him, they called an EMT to examine him. Even in cuffs, Martinez was spitting on the police, the EMT equipment, and a fireman. He was taken to the hospital where it was discovered that his blood alcohol content was at 0.268! I don’t know about you, but I’m glad the police put up a fight and got that man off the streets.
