Pharmacist Claims Self Defense but was Convicted of Murder
There are times when self defense is justified, but there is also a line that must be drawn. When people feel that their lives are in danger, then they are justified to defend themselves. However, when they have defended themselves and continue their violence against the offender and end up killing them, then there is something wrong with that.
A pharmacist in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma was recently convicted of murder made a huge mistake. It all started when a 16 year old made a mistake of his own. The youngster decided that he would attempt a daring robbery of a local pharmacy. The robbery ended with him losing his life, but it didn’t have to be that way.
When the young man came into the store and made his demands, the store owner felt that he needed to take action. He pulled out a gun and shot the teenager in the head. The gunshot didn’t kill him, though he was left unconscious on the floor of the drug store.
The surveillance footage from the store shows something horrible after the teen had been shot. The pharmacist walked by the body of the youth and very soon walked by again. He then retrieved a different gun and fired five more rounds into the abdomen of the inexperienced thief. This was a blatant, aggressive act. The additional gunshots ensured that the young man would lose his life.
The conviction of the pharmacist showed where the Oklahoma courts stand on self defense. They are very much in favor of people defending their lives, but they are very much against killing in order to fulfill a personal agenda. They sent a message telling people to do what they need to, but don’t cross the line.
