Son Kills Father and Claims Self Defense
In these hard economic times, just like all hard economic time, crime is on the rise. People resort to robbery, theft, and even murder. People are even arguing about money a lot these days. One family’s financial troubles led to even worse problems when violence entered into the equation. A man is now dead and the one who killed him is claiming self defense.
A family in Sigourney, Iowa is facing a very troublesome time right now. A son and his father got into an argument recently over money outside of their house. During the argument, both men went inside and got their guns. The argument escalated and the son ended up shooting and killing his father.
The son is currently on trial and has admitted to killing his own father, but he swears that it was in self defense. He claims that he felt his life was in danger and that he had no other choice than to open fire.
The jury will have a tough time deciding what really happened. He could be convicted of murder, but if they believe that he really acted in his own defense then he could be convicted of voluntary manslaughter. Either way, he is facing jail time.
It is too late to change what happened now, but I am sure that the son wishes he had done something different. Guns really didn’t need to be brought into the situation, especially under such highly volatile emotional circumstances. They may have had money troubles, but no life should end over money.
Times are hard for everyone these days. But let this story be a lesson to you. If you get into an argument over finances, don’t settle the argument with violence.
