Stun Gun Used on Disney World Employee
A deputy sheriff in Florida’s Orange County was working in a security office in Disney World’s Epcot Park when a stun gun accident occurred. The deputy was off duty from the sheriff’s department at the time and had a stun gun with him. During the time he was in the office, he handed his stun gun to someone else working in the office. The person who had the stun gun in his possession then allegedly used the stun gun on another employee who was in the office.
According to the local news reports, emergency services were called and the incident was reported as an accident. The person shocked by the stun gun was a 53-year-old employee who fell down after being shocked but did not lose consciousness after being stunned in the chest. He did not experience trouble breathing during the incident. Paramedics were called to the security gate where the incident took place to check out the person who was shocked.
The department’s spokesperson stressed that though stun guns are non-lethal weapons, they are still serious weapons that must be handles with care. The deputy is currently under administrative review while the sheriff’s department investigates exactly what happened during the incident and where the fault lies.
The stun gun was issued to the deputy by the local sheriff’s department and was being carried in his capacity as a security officer. According to the Range County sheriff’s department rules, deputies are allowed to wear their work uniforms and to carry their weapons when they are working in a law-enforcement position when off duty from the sheriff’s department. While there is an investigation going on, it is not a criminal investigation. The sheriff’s deputy involved in the incident will remain on duty during the investigation.
