Canadian Robber Stopped With a TASER
A 22 year old Canadian man was finally brought into custody thanks to a TASER. He had allegedly attempted to hold up a store in British Columbia, using the threat of a concealed knife and absconding with cash before he fled on foot. As police pursued him, he threw the cash. The police officer stopped to gather the cash, and the robber escaped. The very next night, robbed another store, stealing several liquor bottles from a liquor store. Once both robberies were connected by police, the search began for the man responsible.
Predictably, the robber returned to the area of the first robbery to try to find some of the cash he had abandoned. Using a tracking dog, he was located after several hours hiding inside a house in the area. The officers attempted to get him out of the house to face arrest for both robberies. However, the alleged robber refused to leave the house and began threatening to harm himself, according to police. Officers were able to talk the man’s girlfriend out of the house after about 30 minutes of negotiations, but the suspect refused to leave. That’s when the officers entered the house and were threatened with a knife.
A TASER was used on the suspect after several other methods had failed to subdue the alleged robber. The officers threatened to let the police dog loose, but the suspect continued to threaten the officers. The TASER subdued the suspect, ending the conflict and allowing the officers to make the arrest. A spokesperson for the police department said that the use of the weapon on the suspect was correct under the circumstances and that the officers were kept from harm by using it. The suspect was not injured by the jolt and has been charged with a count of robbery and a count of theft of items under $5,000.
