Police Officer Needed Pepper Spray for Traffic Incident
A Louisiana police officer was fired recently when it was alleged that he used pepper spray on a 61-year-old grandmother who was related to a councilman of the town of Golden Meadow. The incident happened during a traffic stop in Golden Meadow when the woman was pulled over for having a window tint on her pickup truck that violated the law.
It was allegedly the second time the woman had been pulled over by the officer for the same offense. According to local reports, the officer claims the woman attempted to drive away after being pulled over. The woman claimed that her foot slipped from the brake and caused the vehicle to move accidently. The vehicle moved about 50 feet down the side of the road with the officer holding on, afraid of falling and being crushed by the vehicle.
The officer demanded that the woman give him her driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration. She was also ordered out of the vehicle. The woman allegedly refused to comply with these orders, saying that she wanted the matter dealt with elsewhere.
The officer and the grandmother ended up in a scuffle with the officer allegedly attempting to physically remove her from the vehicle. The officer alleges that the woman grabbed the steering wheel, wrapping her arm around it to avoided being removed from the vehicle. The officer said that he then verbally warned her several times that he would use pepper spray if she didn’t leave the vehicle. When she still did not leave her truck, she was sprayed with pepper spray. She received medical treatment for bruised arms and for the pepper spray that affected her eyes. The officer was fired by the town council by a unanimous vote. The woman was charged with public intimidation, aggravated battery, illegal window tint, and resisting by violence.
