An Elderly Man’s Self Defense From Invaders
When two alleged home invaders entered the home of a 74-year-old man, they may not have envisioned the problems that ensued. When the homeowner was away, two men allegedly broke into the home through the front door. The homeowner arrived home and saw that a strange car was parked near the driveway of his home. The front and side doors were open, tipping the homeowner off about the problem going on inside.
When the two were confronted by the homeowner and told to leave, the two intruders became threatening. When the two men advanced toward the elderly man, he picked up his machete from its spot near the front door and used it in self defense. Even after cutting one of the home invaders a few times on his hand and arm, both men continued to advance on the elderly homeowner in a threatening manner.
Not a man to take the situation lying down, the elderly man then drew a gun to defend himself. The weapon was a .25 caliber pistol, and the man used it to shoot one of the invaders. The homeowner shot one of the two men in the abdomen. Both men were able to escape the home and to flee the scene. The wounded man was caught after he went to a local hospital to receive treatment for his gunshot wound. The other alleged intruder was found in his own home nearby.
Both men have been charged with a variety of crimes, including menacing, conspiracy, burglary and criminal mischief. The homeowner sustained no injuries in the incident.
