Pepper Spray Helps Alaskan with Broken Ankle Fight Off Three Intruders
A resident of Ninilchik, Alaska, was in his girlfriend’s home when three men broke in at about 2 am on October 2nd and tried to assault him. He already had a broken ankle but successfully drove them away with the aid of pepper spray and mace.
The intruders (men in their 20’s), were hit with a blast of pepper spray and mace as they approached him via the stairs. He also used the blunt end of a hatchet to defend himself and kicked the attackers. The three men fled and were eventually arrested. They were charged with first degree burglary and fourth-degree assault. his current girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend had previously threatened him and sent threatening texts to him.
The fleeing men went to the home next door, which belongs to one of the men's parents. He called the police and then hid in the woods to avoid further confrontations.
Considering the situation he was in, he was smart to carry something to defend himself. With his broken ankle it was unlikely that he would have been able to fend off his attackers on his own. The pepper spray and mace disoriented the attackers enough for him to get in a few good blows and escape the situation.
