Mississippi Man Stabbed Assailant in Self Defense
A 20 year old man was arrested on Thursday for stabbing a man, age 46, to death in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The younger man claimed that the stabbing was in self defense as the older man was beating him severely and that he feared for his own life.
The fight began when the older man tried to force the younger man to perform an oral sex act on him. Intimidated, the younger man pulled out a weapon to defend himself.
“He is twice my size, ok?” said the younger man outside of his first court appearance. “So, I pulled out my knife, and, yes, I stuck him with it because that was my last result.”
The younger man was apparently successful in ending the fight as the older man left the scene shortly thereafter. He drove himself to a nearby hospital, Forrest General Hospital, and died shortly after collapsing there.
The younger man is in the Forrest County Jail on a $350,000 bond.
When a fight results in the death of one of the participants it is very difficult to truly gauge what went on during the incident. Did the younger man have legitimate reason to fear for his life or personal safety? What were the circumstances that led to the confrontation?
No matter the specifics of the situation, whether or not the younger man had put himself into a dangerous situation or had acted foolishly, if a person feels like they are imminent danger they should be able to act in self defense. Only time and a thorough investigation will prove or disprove the claims.
