Kids Taught Self Defense in Cranford, NJ
You don’t have to look far to find stories of children being victimized in the news. Self defense is not only "cool" to learn, it is essential for the safety of all children. To avoid unintentionally creating little Rambo duplicates, a karate school in Cranford, NJ has initiated a program that teaches self-esteem, discipline and safety awareness.
Unlike many martial arts classes, this one focuses entirely on defensive maneuvers. Black belts teach the children, which are divided into skill levels, how to defend themselves in a variety of situations. This program, called KidSafe Self-Defense, addresses issues like fire safety, strangers and more.
The program has several goals;
1. To protect the most vulnerable children by providing them with appropriate strategies when confronted with danger.
2. To teach them how to defend themselves without causing undue fear in even the youngest participants.
3. To avoid teaching potentially aggressive behaviors that could escalate a situation into something more dangerous.
The KidSafe program is available around the country at a variety of venues.
Keeping Kids Safe is Job #1
There is no doubt that children today face more dangers than previous generations. The Internet alone has created an environment that simply didn’t exist before. Add to that the need for both parents to work; fewer close connections with neighbors and families that live far from one another and children often need to be more independent than we ever were.
Knowing how to respond when confronted, understanding the difference between a safe situation and an unsafe one, and being able to employ effective self defense strategies gives kids the confidence they need to get themselves out of trouble.
Cranford’s commitment to KidSafe classes demonstrates an understanding of the challenges facing both parents and children in our modern times. Remember, self defense is a gift that has no price tag.
