City Provides Self Defense Classes for Protection
Just outside of San Francisco, in the town of Glen Park, citizens are taking charge of their own self defense. Glen Park has seen a rise in the number of personal assaults in the last few years and has responded by creating the Glen Park Patrol Special Safety Program.
The group has successfully raised money from local merchants and residents in order to pay for a part time, daily patrol officer and will now sponsor their first self defense and safety awareness class. The class is open to the public and is geared towards preventing crime in the neighborhood.
Self defense truly is about taking charge of one’s own safety. In this example we have a town that has banded together, not just to protect personal interests, but to provide a safe environment for all residents and business people alike. With the economy challenging the budgets of cities across the nation, this kind of action and support is particularly heart warming.
Glen Park will hold its first class during March, and no doubt will consider adding more classes depending upon the response and the funds available. An educated citizenry is a safer citizenry and Glen Park is doing its best to ensure a safe town.
Self Defense is for everyone
We have all encountered those who would argue that only a certain subset of the population should, or could, be able to defend themselves. That is certainly not what our Founding Fathers had in mind. While bearing arms isn’t for everyone, certainly, being able to hold off a mugger, learning how to be aware of one’s environment and recognizing a dangerous situation as it is developing are all essential skills, no matter what your age.
Classes like the one being offered in Glen Park are the first stone in the wall of community safety. Everyone has a responsibility to help protect themselves, their family, their town and their country. Learning self defense will go a long way in accomplishing that goal.
