Police Use TASER in Hotel Based Arrest
TASERs are useful world wide. Two suspects in Cumbria, UK were taken into custody after an altercation with police. The individuals in question got into an altercation with the officers who were called to a hotel in Kendal, after one of the men had flashed a gun. Someone in the area had seen a man on the hotel balcony wielding what he believed to be a firearm.
Armed officers entered the hotel and attempted to negotiate with the men involved. One of the men was cooperative, and the other confrontational. Roads around the hotel were closed for a time, and the safety of the community was the highest priority throughout the entire incident.
While no one was injured, at least one of the suspects refused to comply with police requests throughout the confrontation. That man was subdued by the use of a TASER, a non-lethal weapon that discharged a 50,000 volt shock into the uncooperative suspect.
After both men were restrained a search of their belongings ensued. A firearm was discovered and taken by the police. One man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offenses and for making death threats, the other on suspicion of firearms offenses.
Laws Differ, but Community Safety Remains Constant
While laws regarding the possession and use of firearms change from country to country, one thing does remain stable: the police’s desire to keep their communities safe. Officers were on the scene in a matter of minutes after the call came in and they handled the situation calmly, effectively and without using lethal force.
A tazzer, often mistakenly identified as a stun gun, is a particularly effective tool when the police are confronted with an aggressive, uncooperative individual, but they don’t feel the need to draw firearms. In this situation the officers acted decisively to restrain two individuals that they felt had the potential of becoming dangerous, quickly.
