An Eviction in Bakersfield, CA Ends Shockingly
No one likes to lose his or her home, that is obvious. However, when a 27-year-old man from Bakersfield, CA received a court ordered eviction notice, he refused to comply.
Late Tuesday morning, March 2, 2010, deputies were asked to assist in the court ordered eviction of said man from an apartment building on Q Street. The tenant refused to leave the building, reported the officers later.
Even though he had been notified of the impending eviction, the tenant had made no plans to do so. When officers arrived on the scene they attempted to convince him to leave voluntarily, to no avail. When repeated efforts produced no results, the tenant refused to speak with the officers at all, the deputies attempted to escort him from the apartment.
A scuffle ensued and when the tenant continued to struggle ignoring requests to cease, one deputy employed a TASER. The TASER produced the desired effect with the tenant complying with further directions. The deputies took the tenant to Kern Medical Center for medical clearance. The man was released quickly as no injuries had been sustained during the struggle.
The officers complained of minor muscle soreness, but were also uninjured. The tenant was arrested on charges of resisting and officer in the performance of his duties.
Officers Enforce Compliance Without Lethal Force
The economic downturn has certainly created more eviction situations, and few of them go as planned. People, understandably, resist being moved out of their residence, even as they realize they simply can’t afford the rent. Faced with the prospect of living on the streets, resistance to removal can be strenuous.
TASER products allow police officers to subdue and remove aggressive tenants without using lethal force. These weapons are effective and generally safe, enabling law enforcement to carry out their jobs with less risk to officer and individual.
